Look for Gracie at Eco-Freak store in the heart of the Creek

I’m pleased to say that the Eco-Freako store in the heart of Roberts Creek on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast is carrying Gracie’s Got a Secret. I feel honoured to be part of their eco-minded business, especially since they have chosen to carry only a handful of authors.

Like Andrea, whose Creek Chic business previously occupied Eco-Freako’s current storefront, Eco-Freak is a strong supporter of local artists and creative entrepreneurs. Hurray for such forward-thinking business people. Remember to shop local.

Author signings Dec. 5 on Sunshine Coast

I’ll be selling and signing Gracie’s Got a Secret books in Gibsons, BC on Saturday, Dec. 5. Look for me outside the Windows on the Water Gallery in Sunnycrest Mall on the Sunshine Coast Highway.

I’m almost sold out out of the finger puppets that accompany Gracie’s Got a Secret. Just two sets left. Colourful and washable, they’re fun, fair-trade items made in Peru. They’ve been a popular sale item in previous years.

Hope to see you there.

Gracie and I appeared at Roberts Creek Hall on April 26 as part of the Neil Falkner Legacy fundraiser.

This annual event, held by mother Judy Lynne, honours the memory of her son Neil, who died while backcountry skiing.

Each year, Judy raises money to send two youths to an Outward Bound course. Participation in Outward Bound played an instrumental role in changing Neil’s life, inspiring him to become a ski instructor and backwoods enthusiast.

Reading and book signing March 22 in Gibsons

During March break, I’ll be reading Gracie’s Got a Secret, with puppets, at 1:30 p.m. at Windows on the Water Gallery in Sunnycrest Mall in Gibsons. I’ll have books on hand before and afterwards for sale and signing.

I’ll also be selling sets of fair-trade fingers puppets — a fish, alligator, and elephant — that were a popular sellout over the holidays last December. Starting at 12:30, I’ll have my other books available too: Vancouver’s Glory Years, Emails from India, and Raincoast Chronicles.

The mall is hosting Antiques Roadshow that day, so it should be a busy time. Come on by.

Seven-year-old Sarah Noel (a perfect name for Christmas!) had fun with my Gracie puppet in Pender Harbour in December 2013.

It was fun to introduce my new fair-trade finger puppets to Christmas shoppers at the craft fair in Pender Harbour in December 2013. That month, I sold out my sets of three puppets (a fish, elephant, and alligator) and will soon have more available. (You can purchase the puppets separately at Gaia Fair Trade in Gibsons, BC.)

Local author Michael Maser and I, both with books published by MW Book Publishing, sold and signed copies of our books. I also sold two new anthologies that include my writing: Harbour Publishing’s Raincoast Chronicles 22 and Seraphim Editions’ Emails from India: Women Write Home.

Gracie featured on Spiritual Teachers website

You’ll find Gracie in great company on the Spiritual Teachers website. The book Gracie’s Got a Secret
appears alongside popular thought-provoking favourites like Zen Shorts and Zen Ties by Jon Muth, and Moody Cow Meditates by Kerry Lee MacLean.

The books on this site seem to lean towards eastern spirituality, which is where I find my inspiration. But these books can help children in any family look at their life differently and “be” in it more effectively. As the site says: “just trying to teach a few life lessons and perhaps help the kiddos retain a bit of the openness they were born with.”

Gracie hits Gibsons, BC with two Heathers

. . .with Gracie, Mopey, and Heather Evans-Cullen

Had lots of fun with Gracie last Saturday (Feb. 9, 2013). About a dozen kids showed up with a parent or grandparent at Gibsons Public Library to hear me read Gracie’s Got a Secret. Children’s librarian Heather Evans-Cullen helped with the puppeteering and she made a great Mopey and Nellie.

I love reading to multi-generational audiences!

Afterwards, Heather invited the children to create their own fish, using construction paper, sparkles, feathers, and more. Many thanks to the dad who took these photos for me on my iPhone.

Gracie at Gibsons Public Library Feb. 9

Copies of Gracie’s Got a Secret will be available for purchase and signing by the author.
